About

The Classics and Ancient History society at the University of Adelaide is a club for anyone who has an interest in Classical Studies and the fascinating world of antiquity. From the birth of the gods to the fall of the mighty Roman Empire, the club is dedicated to appreciating everything classical studies has to offer.

We host a variety of social events throughout the year including quiz nights, movie nights, museum tours, socials and monthly catch ups. Academic endeavours are not neglected either with Latin study groups and classics essay help also on offer.

Our club was founded in the 1980’s, with the original name for the club being the Bacchae, an homage to the Bacchants of Dionysos, the God of wine and ecstasy. The club fell into disuse around the mid 2000’s and was reinstated in October 2013 by Mark Lim, then a student at the university.

Our goal as a club is to provide an open and supportive environment for students to share their love of all things ancient. We are one of the oldest disciplines on campus with a strong tradition of opening minds of students to the wonders of antiquity.
